Adesanya Cautiously Mindful of the ‘Perilous’ Strickland

Israel Adesanya and Sean Strickland are all set to headline UFC 293 in September, engaging in a high-stakes clash.

Initially, it seemed that ‘The Last Stylebender’ would face off against Dricus du Plessis, following the South African’s impressive upset victory over Robert Whittaker at UFC 290. However, ‘Stillknocks’ had to withdraw from the bout due to an injury.

Adesanya revealed that he had to persuade the UFC to arrange a fight with Strickland, as the promotion didn’t seem overly enthusiastic about the matchup. Looking ahead to their pay-per-view showdown, Adesanya provided insights into his upcoming adversary. During a recent interview on Combat TV, Adesanya stated:

“In terms of skill, I’d rate Strickland at around three out of ten on the threat scale. But a man with everything to gain and nothing to lose can be exceptionally dangerous. This is why I’m taking him seriously and why I’ve dedicated myself to rigorous training for this camp.”

Both fighters are renowned for their striking prowess, yet they employ notably different approaches to achieve success. Sean Strickland leverages an unyielding offensive and an elevated striking output to assert dominance over his opponents. Conversely, Israel Adesanya adopts a more calculated approach as a counter-striker, adept at setting traps for his adversaries.
