Bayer Leverkusen’s manager, Xabi Alonso, along with the club’s sporting director, Simon Rolfes, have showered praise on Victor Boniface, the Nigerian striker, for his exceptional display that secured a victory last weekend, according to a report by PUNCH Sports Extra.
Since joining Bayer Leverkusen, Boniface has enjoyed a remarkable start to his career with three goals and one assist in just as many competitive matches.
In a recent match at Borussia Park on Saturday, the 22-year-old showcased his prowess by netting a double, contributing significantly to Bayer Leverkusen’s dominant 3-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach in the Rhine derby.
Boniface had already demonstrated his top-tier capabilities in the previous Europa League season, amassing two goals and two assists across four clashes against Union Berlin in the group stage and round of 16. Notably, he also found the back of the net against his current club during the quarter-finals.
His standout performances earned him the distinction of being the joint-top scorer alongside Marcus Rashford from Manchester United in the 2022/23 UEFA Europa League campaign, having scored an impressive six goals in 10 matches. This achievement subsequently paved the way for his €20 million move from Royale Union Saint-Gilloise to Germany.
Following his transfer to Bayer Leverkusen this summer, Boniface continued to make waves. He promptly scored his debut goal in the DFB Cup against Leipzig, secured his first Bundesliga assist, and then clinched a brace in only his second appearance in the German top-flight.
In a conversation with Bundesliga.com, Xabi Alonso, the legendary figure from Liverpool, commended Victor Boniface for his remarkable attributes. Alonso expressed, “Victor poses a genuine threat to opposing defenses. His strength, speed, and ability to make deep runs make him a formidable force. His positive mindset and team-oriented approach set him apart from the rest.”
Simon Rolfes, the club’s sporting director, also chimed in, stating, “Victor has been on our radar for a considerable period. His performance against us confirmed our high regard for him. Victor is a dominant center forward with exceptional physicality that presents a challenge for any defender. Additionally, his speed and technical finesse further elevate his game.”
Looking ahead, Victor Boniface will strive to bolster his goal count as Bayer Leverkusen prepares to face Darmstadt in their third league match of the season.
