In the climax of the 2022 World indoor championship happening in Belgrade which happens to be the capital city of Serbia, Team Nigeria from the western coast of Africa finished it’s outing in style with a silver medal, thanks to Ese Brume with an hit of 6.85 metres paving way for Serbian representative and homegirl Ivana Vuleta to clinch Gold with a hit of 7.06 metres.
The country’s 4x400m relay team had crashed out earlier yesterday having finished 4th on the chart and their second representative in the long jump event was to follow suit later having finished in the eighth position with 6.69 metres.
With her clinching the silver medal, she ended Nigeria’s drought of 14 years dating back to 2008 as the nation once again reclaimed lost glory by returning to the championship podium once again.
with her achieving such feat in grand style, Brume has now only become the third Nigerian to win medals at World Athletics Championships indoors and outdoors, as well as at the Olympics behind Glory Alozie and late Sunday Bada, but she is also the third long jumper to win a World Indoor title after Paul Emordi (1987) and Chioma Ajunwa (1997).
Furthermore, this feat achieved moved her toto the top of the African and Nigerian indoor list for the year, joint fourth in the African all-time list behind Chioma Ajunwa (6.97m), Blessing Okagbare (6.87m) and Sierra Leone’s Eunice Barber (6.86m).
With the conclusion of the events, Nigeria has now recorded a total of 12 medals in the history of the championship consisting of 2 gold, 7 silver and 3 bronze medals respectively.
