Barely twenty-four hours after the event of the APC party national convention of which new officers were elected, Rauf Aregbesola’s allies alongside Lai Mohammed’s allies dumped the ruling party APC for the opposition party PDP.
It is Worthy to note that despite the conclusion of the party’s national convention, The crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress still rocks on in at least 12 states and their respective constituencies.
According to report of various news agency, though a reconciliation committee headed bySenator Abdullahi Adamu, who is now the chairman of the party has been set up, nothing is yet to be resolved.
Currently, there are 208 ongoing court cases in different facets of the country by aggrieved party members of the APC many of which are yet to be concluded resulting in some sore losers dumping the party and engaging in talks with the opposition party which is the Peoples Democratic Party.
Recall that just these past week, Saheed Popoola, who is a leading member of the Lai Mohammed faction,made his defection to the Social Democratic Party known on the floor of the Assembly with his disclosure being made known In a chat with the news outlet on Monday being the 28th day of the month of March.
Moving further to the western region of the country in Osun state, the publicity secretary of the APC in the person of Abiodun Agboola alongside his faction backed by the minister of interior, Rauf Aregbesola, said members of his group would wait pending the judgement of the court challenging Governor Gboyega Oyetola’s eligibility.
The publicity secretary further went on to add that the group had no intentions of defecting away from the APC but rather the group would pursue the matter ofOyetola’s eligibility to stand as the party flag bearer of the APC to a logical conclusion.
In his words, “We are not moving to any party and we are not talking to any partywhatsoever.We remain members of the APC. The national conventiohas come and gone. Officers have emerged and they have been sworn in.”
In regards to that, a former deputy national publicity secretary of the PDP, Mr Diran Odeyemi, said the opposition party in Osun state would play the game of negotiating with the APC faction backed by Aregbesola.
He expressed his belief that the crises in the Osun APC would be taken advantage ofby the PDP to have a successful outing in the upcoming gubernatorial elections.
