partial resolution as four individuals who were abducted by unidentified gunmen have regained their freedom. The abduction occurred as the victims were returning from Aworo Village, close to Agbamu in Kwara State, to their hometown of Oyan in Osun State. The victims, who were involved in a commercial transaction, were ambushed around 6:30 pm while passing through Aworo.
Among the victims was Mrs. Grace Adepoju, identified as the Iyalode of Oyan. She managed to escape from her captors in the early hours of the following day. However, the remaining four individuals were held captive as local hunters, members of the Amotekun Corps, and law enforcement agencies launched a joint effort to secure their release.
The intense search led to the arrest of two individuals suspected of aiding the kidnappers. These suspects were apprehended while making calls within the nearby forest. As the investigation continued, it was revealed that the kidnappers had demanded a ransom for the release of the abducted individuals.
In a turn of events, one of the victims tragically lost their life while in captivity. However, on Sunday, a breakthrough occurred as the remaining four victims were freed in a rural area within Kwara State. Their release came after an alleged payment of N7 million ransom to the abductors. The victims had been held for an unspecified period, enduring the uncertainty and danger of their situation.
Kehinde Adeleke, the spokesperson for the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, confirmed the development. She stated that while four individuals were successfully released, one victim sadly succumbed to the conditions of captivity. Additionally, three individuals suspected of involvement in the incident were apprehended by law enforcement authorities.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the security challenges faced in certain regions and the efforts taken to ensure the safety and well-being of the affected individuals. As investigations continue, the authorities are working to apprehend all those responsible for this tragic event.
