An individual named Ameh Ameh was presented before the Yaba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos by the Lagos State Police Command on Friday. The charges brought against him included impersonation and the unlawful possession of an Army uniform.
Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun presided over the arraignment proceedings. The prosecuting officer, Inspector Rita Momoh, informed the court that Ameh was a former member of the armed forces but had been dismissed from service several years ago.
Inspector Momoh detailed that the 45-year-old had been engaging in fraudulent activities by posing as a military personnel in the Berger area of Lagos State, where he extorted money from unsuspecting individuals. His actions were in violation of Section 380 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
The charge presented in court read as follows: “Ameh Ameh, on August 12, 2023, at Berger, Lagos State, within the Lagos Magisterial District, committed a felony, namely impersonation and unlawful possession of an Army uniform. This act constitutes an offense punishable under Section 380 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
Magistrate Olatunbosun granted bail to the defendant, setting the amount at N100,000 and requiring a responsible surety to match the bail amount. The case was scheduled for mention on November 13, 2023.
