A lawyer named Festus Ogun, representing his law firm, has submitted a formal request to the Attorney General of Lagos State, Moyosore Onigbanjo, urging the initiation of a Coroner’s Inquest into the suspicious demise of the renowned Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
According to PUNCH Online, the Lagos Police Command has formed a 13-member special investigation team to delve into the mysterious passing of Mohbad, which occurred last week. In an official statement, Lagos State Commissioner, Idowu Owohunwa, emphasized their access to INTERPOL resources, affirming that anyone connected to Mohbad’s death would be identified and subjected to scrutiny to ascertain their level of involvement.
Ogun, in his statement issued on Monday, highlighted that upon the public disclosure of Mohbad’s death, numerous reports emerged, casting doubt on the naturalness of his sudden demise. Disturbing videos circulated on social media depicted Mohbad in severe distress, lamenting the ordeal he had endured at the hands of unidentified individuals. Furthermore, credible reports suggested that Mohbad had been a target of consistent bullying, harassment, torture, assault, and intimidation, which persisted until his untimely passing.
The individuals who were last seen with Mohbad before his death failed to provide a coherent explanation regarding the events leading up to his demise. Ogun contended that the accounts offered by these individuals were contradictory and lacked credibility. He expressed concern about the hurried and hasty burial of the artist, describing it as a suspicious act that warranted scrutiny.
Citing Sections 14 and 15 of the Coroner’s Systems Law of Lagos State, Ogun formally requested the commencement of a Coroner’s Inquest to thoroughly investigate and ascertain the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death. He further implored the Attorney General to utilize the authority provided under Section 17 of the Coroner’s System Law to order the exhumation of Mohbad’s remains for the Chief Medical Examiner to conduct a detailed examination to determine the cause of death.
Concluding his statement, Ogun expressed unwavering trust in the competence and integrity of the Lagos State Coroner System. He hoped that the findings of the investigation would be made publicly available, enabling the appropriate authorities to take necessary action against those found responsible. Ogun underscored the importance of promptly addressing this request in the pursuit of justice and fairness.
