Roma is set to welcome Belgian international striker Romelu Lukaku as the club and Chelsea have reached an agreement on a loan deal, as per a report by Gazzetta dello Sport on Monday.
According to the renowned Italian sports daily, Roma will be paying Chelsea a sum of 5.8 million euros ($6.2 million) for the loan arrangement, alongside an annual salary of 7.5 million euros designated for the player.
The report outlines that Lukaku is scheduled to arrive in the city of Rome on Tuesday to undergo the mandatory medical examination before officially joining the team.
Notably, Lukaku will be reuniting with his former coach Jose Mourinho at Roma. The Portuguese manager had previously guided Lukaku during his stints at both Chelsea and Manchester United.
The Belgian striker had made a high-profile return to Chelsea in 2021 for a staggering fee of 115 million euros from Inter Milan. Lukaku’s football journey has seen him traverse various clubs, initially joining Chelsea in 2011, then moving on to Everton in 2014, and later making stops at Manchester United and Inter.
During the past season, Lukaku, now 30 years old, spent his time on loan in Italy, donning the Inter Milan jersey and delivering notable performances by netting 14 goals.
Roma, who has been actively reinforcing their squad, recently secured Iranian international Sardar Azmoun on loan from Bayer Leverkusen. The team has also managed to secure the services of midfielders Leandro Paredes and Renato Sanches from Paris Saint-Germain, with the latter also joining on loan.
Moreover, Roma made a significant signing in the form of Houssem Aouar, who inked a five-year deal with the club after transferring from Lyon in June.
As the Serie A season unfolds, Roma has garnered a single point from their initial two matches.
