NiMet Forecasts 3 Days of Variable Cloud Cover and Sunshine Starting Saturday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued its weather forecast for the upcoming weekend and Monday, indicating a mix of cloudiness and sunshine across the nation.

In its recent weather outlook released on Friday, NiMet projected that Saturday would bring cloudy conditions along with intermittent periods of sunshine in the northern region. There’s a likelihood of morning thunderstorms in areas of Kaduna, Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kebbi States. Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms are expected in regions including Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna, Adamawa, Taraba, Katsina, Kano, Yobe, and Jigawa States.

Over the North Central region, a cloudy atmosphere is anticipated, with potential rain showers in the morning hours over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, and Niger States. As the day progresses, thunderstorms and rains are predicted to develop over sections of Plateau, Kogi, Niger, Benue, the Federal Capital Territory, and Kwara States.

Moving to the inland states of the South and coastal areas, the morning is likely to begin with cloudy conditions, accompanied by chances of light rain in parts of Ondo, Oyo, Osun, Anambra, Imo, Enugu, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Rivers States. Later in the day, NiMet expects thunderstorms and rains in regions including Ebonyi, Imo, Anambra, Abia, Edo, Ogun, Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, Osun, Lagos, Bayelsa, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Cross River States.

For Sunday, NiMet’s forecast indicates a cloudy atmosphere with intermittent sunshine in the northern region. Morning hours may bring thunderstorms in parts of Kaduna, Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Zamfara, and Taraba States. As the day progresses, thunderstorms are anticipated in regions including Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Taraba, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi, Gombe, and Bauchi States.

Over the North Central region, a cloudy atmosphere is expected, with the potential for morning thunderstorms over areas of the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Kwara, Niger, and Nasarawa States. Later in the day, thunderstorms accompanied by rain are projected over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Benue, Kwara, Nasarawa, Kogi, Kwara, and Plateau States.

Moving to the South, NiMet forecasts a cloudy atmosphere with a likelihood of morning rains in Abia, Ebonyi, Lagos, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Delta states. The day is expected to bring intermittent rains over areas including Ebonyi, Imo, Abia, Edo, Anambra, Ondo, Oyo, Ogun, Cross River, Enugu, Ekiti, Delta, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa States.

As Monday arrives, NiMet foresees cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine in the northern region. Morning hours may see thunderstorms over parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Zamfara, and Taraba States. Later in the day, thunderstorms are projected for areas of Zamfara, Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba, and Borno.

Over the North Central region, thunderstorms with rains are anticipated in the morning over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Nasarawa, Kogi, Benue, and Plateau. Subsequently, the entire region is expected to experience thunderstorms as the day progresses.

In the southern inland cities and coastal states, a cloudy atmosphere is anticipated, with chances of intermittent morning rains in Abia, Enugu, Anambra, Imo, Ogun, Oyo, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom. Later in the day, there’s a potential for thunderstorms accompanied by rains over parts of Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Edo, Anambra, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Lagos, Rivers, and Cross River.

NiMet’s forecast also includes a caution about the possibility of moderate to heavy rainfall leading to flash floods. It advises the public to exercise necessary caution, avoid flood waters, and be prepared for strong winds preceding and accompanying thunderstorms. Disaster Risk Managers, Agencies, and individuals are urged to take proactive measures to prevent loss of life and property during the rainy season. Additionally, NiMet advises airline operators to stay updated with weather reports and alerts for effective operational planning.
