Race for Iheanacho Heats Up as Wolves Enter the Fray

According to a report by Football Insider, Wolverhampton Wanderers, a Premier League club, is considering a move for Kelechi Iheanacho, the striker from Leicester City, if Matheus Nunes departs this summer.

Iheanacho, a key contributor to Leicester City’s perfect start in the English Championship, is attracting interest from multiple Premier League clubs, including Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest.

Despite being crucial to Leicester’s efforts to regain Premier League status after relegation, 26-year-old Iheanacho is on the radar of Wolves’ manager, Gary O’Neil, who considers him a priority target for the transfer window.

Leicester City is reluctant to part with Iheanacho, but they are aware that his contract will expire next summer, potentially making him available at a reduced price.

The report states that Wolves have identified Iheanacho, among three other potential strikers, as a feasible target to pursue in the late stages of the transfer window. The geographical advantage of being located in the Midlands could provide Wolves with an edge in the competition to secure Iheanacho’s signature.

In the current season, Iheanacho has managed one goal and provided two assists in five appearances, totaling 293 minutes of playtime. Last season, he contributed eight goals and five assists in 35 matches as Leicester City faced relegation from the Premier League.

Just two seasons ago, Iheanacho’s impressive performance included 19 goals and seven assists in 39 games, which coincided with Leicester City’s victory in the FA Cup.

Acquired by Leicester for a reported fee of £25 million in 2017 from Manchester City, the 26-year-old Nigerian striker is set to make his 25th appearance in the Carabao Cup as Leicester City takes on Tranmere Rovers on Tuesday.

Iheanacho has already netted 10 goals in the competition, showcasing his proficiency in front of the goal.
