The president of the Nigerian supreme council for Islamic Affairs as well as the Sultan of Sokoto His Eminence Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III had today proclaim the commencement of Ramadan fasting being the second day in the month of April.
Following the appearance of the moon in various city and regions in the countries, he declared the commencement of the Muslim fasting period.
The Sultan made this disclosure known in a live broadcast on the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA monitored by a large proportion of the Muslim faithfuls out there.
In his disclosure, he stated “as the Ramadan begins tomorrow, Saturday, Muslims are not expected to eat, drink or smoke from 6am to 6pm”.
Recall that this period of Ramadan fasting is a solemn period for the Muslim faithfuls and it is expected to last for a span of over 40 days.
