Resign From Office Now ~ Critics Tells APC Party Leader


In the aftermath of their victory at the party’s national convention a fortnight ago, reactions had constantly trail the appointment of the newly elected chairman of the ruling APC, senators, Abdullahi Adamu and his deputy, Senator Abubakar Kyari as both have now be asked by the major opposition party of the nation The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to vacate their seats

Adamu Abdullahi who has been representing Nasarawa West constituency since his emergence in the year 2011, was elected as the national chairman of the party on Saturday following the party’s convention.

While on the other hand just like Adamu, Kyari who has also been in the Senate since the year 2015 when he emerged to represent Borno North Senatorial District through consensus as the deputy national chairman (North) of the ruling party.

Since their renowned appointment as key members of the NationalWorking
Committee(NWC) of the ruling party, criticism has steadily been thrown at them over their seats.

Recall yhat the Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni who headed and took charge of the affairs of the party within a time frame of 21 months as the head of its caretaker

The senator’s seat according to the constitution of the land will be declared vacant following the death of thelawmaker, resignation, recall demand by constituents or court pronouncement ordering INEC to withdraw his or her certificate of return.

A cross section of lawyers shared their views and opinions regarding the matter most notably Professor Paul Ananaba (SAN) who expressed that although there is no straight law on an senator retaining another paid employment as it is for a governor in Section 183 of the Nigerian Constitution, 1999, the senators have a moral duty to quit.

He further went on to give a far cry to the senator’s calling on them to give up their positions to other Nigerians who are up to the task do the job.

Femi Falana (SAN) on his own part shared his opinion that “the executive of the APC and those of the PDP are different sides of the same coin and both political parties are making mockery of Nigerians”.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on the other hand reacting to the matter through their spokesman in the person of Debo Ologunagba had this opinion to express

“It is the APC that should be bothered about whoever they choose as their leader, whether he is qualified or not, we are not worried about that.

“If the person has a corruption case against him like we have identified
against the chairman, that is what concerns us, whether he is qualified or not is not for us to challenge.”

Meanwhile, Tinubu who actually happens to be an aspirants hoping to be the flag bearer for the party for this forthcoming presidential election had earlier congratulated the newly elected National Working Committe (NWC) of the party led by Senator Abdullahi Adamu.

In his statement, Tinubu expressed satisfaction over the conduct and the
outcome of the party’s national convention on Saturday.

He said “the success recorded during the convention demonstrated the resilient fiber of the party in the members’ collective objective to establish democratic, good governance and economic prosperity in Nigeria”.

He further went on to add “i join every member of our party in congratulating the newly elected nembers of the National Working Committee”.


“Our successful national convention demonstrated the resilient fiber of our party in our collective objective to establish democratic good Governance and economic prosperity in Nigeria.”

On why Buhari deserves commendation over APC national convention, according to him President Muhammadu Buhari deserves commendation for his leadership, lauding members of the Caretaker and Extraordinary convention Planning Committee for carrying out the vital assignment of planning and conducting the national convention”, he concluded.
