President Bola Tinubu has called upon legal professionals in the nation to recommit themselves to providing services that contribute to the nation’s development.
During the launch of the 2023 Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Abuja, President Tinubu emphasized that this renewed dedication should commence with a change of mindset and a wholehearted focus on national progress.
The President lauded the conference’s theme, ‘Getting It Right, Charting The Course Of Nigeria’s Nation Building,’ as highly relevant to the present state of the country. He urged attendees to embrace this theme as a call to action.
“We must strive to get it right. Despite our blessings, we still face challenges. It’s time to shift our mindsets. Dwelling on past issues won’t solve anything. Instead, we should look forward and be resolute. Nigeria is our homeland, our duty is to build it,” President Tinubu emphasized.
Furthermore, he pledged his administration’s commitment to collaborating with the private sector, recognizing its pivotal role in driving economic growth and prosperity. This cooperation, he believed, would ensure the delivery of democratic benefits to the Nigerian population.
Addressing crucial issues, President Tinubu highlighted the urgent need to address the electricity deficit. He stressed the link between continuous power supply and poverty alleviation, noting that uninterrupted electricity could lift many out of poverty. He also called for a halt to the practice of using a significant portion of the country’s revenue to service external debts, stating that this path was unsustainable and detrimental to the nation’s future.
President Tinubu emphasized the necessity of difficult changes for Nigeria’s progress, emphasizing that these changes were aimed at securing a prosperous future for generations to come.
Expressing gratitude for the honor of opening the conference, President Tinubu conveyed his confidence in his appointed Ministers and his aspiration for a brighter future for Nigeria under his leadership.
In addition, he called upon his Ministers for a change in approach and attitude towards governance, seeking their active engagement in steering the nation forward.
The Attorney-General of the Federation, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, and guest speaker Mr. Tony Elumelu both echoed the sentiment of unified collaboration for national growth and urged legal professionals to take on strategic roles in nation-building.
The NBA President, Mr. Yakubu Maikyau, SAN, expressed his anticipation that President Tinubu’s achievements from his time as Lagos State governor would be mirrored on a national scale.
Distinguished figures including Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Minister of Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, Minister of Sports Senator John Enoh, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Boss Mustapha, and past Presidents of the NBA were present at the conference’s opening ceremony.
