Luis Rubiales, the president of the Spanish Football Association, has remained in the spotlight following the conclusion of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, during which he kissed forward Jenni Hermoso upon Spain’s victory.
Now, Angeles Bejar, the mother of the president, has commenced a hunger strike as a form of protest against the widespread condemnation of her son’s actions. This new development was confirmed by the Spanish news agency, EFE, earlier today. Bejar has taken refuge within a church in Montril, located in Southern Spain, where she has expressed her determination to continue the hunger strike indefinitely.
According to reports from Spanish news agency EFE, Bejar believes that the criticism directed at her son has been excessively harsh and unfair. She characterized the situation as an “inhumane and unjust persecution” of her son.
In a previous report by Vanguard, it was stated that during the jubilation of the World Cup victory, Luis Rubiales embraced Jenni Hermoso and planted a kiss on her lips, a gesture that Hermoso later clarified she did not appreciate. Subsequently, mounting pressure on the Spanish FA president prompted FIFA to impose a provisional suspension on him last Saturday.
The Spanish Football Association has scheduled a meeting for Monday to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
