Tottenham Hotspur’s manager, Ange Postecoglou, praised the performance of full back Destiny Udogie, stating that he has seamlessly integrated into the team’s strategy. The team secured their second victory of the season against Bournemouth this Saturday, as reported by PUNCH Sports Extra.
Spurs displayed their dominance at the Vitality Stadium with goals from James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski.
Udogie maintained his position in the starting lineup for the third consecutive game, demonstrating his effectiveness in executing the team’s tactical plan alongside Pedro Porro, who played in the right full back position.
Both Udogie and Porro exhibited agility in transitioning from the wing to the midfield, bolstering the team’s attacking efforts while promptly recovering to prevent Bournemouth from exploiting any gaps.
In a conversation with Peter Crouch and Joe Cole on TNT Sports following the victory, Postecoglou highlighted the success of employing full-backs Udogie and Porro as inverted midfielders. He explained that this approach instills confidence in players, allowing them to make strategic decisions without hesitation.
“When players recognize they have the freedom within a structured system, they make decisions without doubt. They instinctively move into open spaces,” Postecoglou commented. “Pedro (Porro) and Destiny (Udogie) both exhibit incredible ball control and speed when running centrally, which significantly benefits our gameplay.”
Addressing Udogie’s minor injury during the match, the Australian coach reassured that the Italy U-21 player of Nigerian origin did not sustain any significant damage. “I believe he just hit the ground with his foot. He was reluctant to be substituted, but due to the current rules, players have to briefly leave the field. I decided to introduce Benny to maintain our game tempo. I’ve spoken to him, and he’s perfectly fine.”
Udogie has enjoyed an impressive start to the season under Postecoglou’s guidance, especially following his return from a loan spell at Udinese.
Tottenham’s next Premier League fixture is an away match against Burnley on Saturday, following their encounter with Fulham in the EFL Cup on Tuesday.
